The Blue Lagoon

The Blue Lagoon is  a health and geothermal spa on the Reykjanes Peninsula.

A visit to the Blue Lagoon Iceland geothermal spa is an important part of your stay in Iceland.

Guests renew their relationship with nature, soak up the scenic beauty and enjoy breathing the clean, fresh air while relaxing in the warm geothermal seawater. It is no surprise that the readers of “Conde Nast Traveller” voted Blue Lagoon as the best spa worldwide and voted one of 25 wonders of the world by National Geographic. For ten consecutive years Blue Lagoon has been awarded the Blue Flag environmental recognition granted to natural beaches and marinas. The water’s temperature is 37-39°C / 98-102°F. The lagoon holds six million liters of geothermal seawater. Regular sampling shows that “common” bacteria do not thrive in this ecosystem, thus additional cleansers such as chlorine are not needed.

Blue Lagoon – Psoriasis Clinic offers natural geothermal treatment of psoriasis in cooperation with Icelandic Health Authorities. The Icelandic Social Insurance pays treatment cost of Icelandic psoriasis patients. A new clinic opened in June 2005. Modern look and practical solutions characterize its design. The lagoon area is designed with the needs of the Clinic in mind and includes a 50m2/60 square yards indoor pool and 350m2/479 square yards outdoor lagoon.

The accommodation features 35 double rooms. The rooms are well designed and spacious with a private bathroom and a porch. Television and Internet access is available in each room. A dining room and a living area, and a fitness room equipped with cardiovascular equipments, weight lifting stations and free weight is at the Clinic.

LAVA Restaurant at Blue Lagoon offers a unique dining experience. It is built into the cliff so it features a natural lava wall and the view overlooks the lagoon, adding to its uniqueness.

The chefs take pride in using fresh Icelandic ingredients and the lunch and evening menus range from light dishes to gourmet meals. Try the catch of the day, which is the freshest fish available from the near fishing village Grindavík.
