On the 10th of July at 16:40 an eruption started at Reykjanes peninsula, only 30 km / 20 mi from Reykjavík, near mt. Keilir and Fagradalsfjall. Fissure about 1 kilometer long opened, and the police have closed the area for the time being. It’s a long, hard walk to the eruption site. Two small eruptions have been in the area, at Fagradalsfjall, in March 2020, and August 2021.
Icelandic Times / Land & Saga will, as soon as possible, bring you photos and stories from the eruption.
