More than 130 artists expressed an interest in participating in the D-Gallery Series at Reykjavík Art Museum – Hafnarhús in 2019. Four artists have been selected: Emma Heiðarsdóttir, Gunnar Jónsson, Ragnheiður Káradóttir and Steinunn Önnudóttir. The selection committee was faced with a difficult task to go through all the applications.
The series in D-Gallery in Hafnarhús began in 2007 and over thirty artists have been presented through these series. The exhibitions aim to present artists with a strong and personal artistic vision who have not held a solo exhibition in a public museum before. The artists in question must not have held a solo exhibition in a public museum before, and they must be connected to the Icelandic art scene through studies, exhibitions or residence.
Through this project artists get an opportunity to present their work in a professional setting and acquaint themselves with the guidelines which public museums follow in their activities. Simultaneously museum visitors gain an insight into new trends and currents in contemporary art.
