Sindri Ploder – If I Were a Monster
September 14th – October 15th 2023
At Sindri Ploder’s exhibition, If I Were a Monster, guests enter into the artist’s world of striking visuals, but earlier this year Sindri was named the artist of the festival Art Without Borders 2023. Since he was twelve years old, Sindri has been drawing monsters, but, in his practice, he uses mostly pen and paper although he has also made three-dimensional versions of his drawing in other mediums, such as wood, ceramics, mosaic and textiles. Sindri’s works often represent self-portraits, revealing rich humour and a defiant joy that captures the viewer at first glance.
The exhibition is curated by Íris Stefanía Skúladóttir.
Sindri Ploder (b. 1997) has had numerous exhibitions since 2016, most recently Fragments of Other Knowledge at The Living Art Museum earlier this year. Sindri first participated in the programme of Art Without Borders in 2017, exhibiting collaborative works with fashion designer Mundi Vondi. Sindri was also featured at the festival in 2019, 2020 and 2022, showing a wide range of works, drawings and more. In 2019, he enrolled in a course at The Reykjavik School of Visual Arts, participating in a group exhibition at the school, but he then went on to study at the education centre Fjölmennt, as well as working at Bjarkarás.
