Bass player Ingibjörg Turchi and guitarist Hróðmar Sigurðsson have been collaborating for years now in various bands. They have both released separate albums in the last years, Ingibjörg Turchi, Meliae 2020 and Stropha 2023 and Hróðmar, Hróðmar Sigurðsson 2021. The duo will play new music for guitar and electric bass which will be released on an album in 2023 along with selection of pieces from each other’s albums and improvisation.
Bass player and composer Ingibjörg Turchi have been a mainstay in the Icelandic music scene for the last ten years. Ingibjörg has played with many of the nation’s most beloved artists in all genres, both in concerts and on recordings. She has also worked in theater and art shows. Since 2017, Ingibjörg has performed regularly under her own name with her band. She has released two solo albums, Wood / work (2017) and Meliae (2020), the latter of which won the Kraumur Prize and was chosen album of the year by Morgunblaðið and straum.is. Meliae also received an award as the Album of the Year in the Jazz and Blues category and for Sound Production of the Year at the Icelandic Music Awards of 2021. Ingibjörg’s work, Anemos, was premiered by the Iceland Symphony Orchestra on behalf of Ung-Yrkja in April 2021. Meliae was nominated for the Hyundai Nordic Music Prize in 2021. She released her new album, Stropha, in 2023.
The guitarist Hróðmar Sigurðsson graduated from the FÍH Music School in 2017. Since then, he has worked as a musician and played music with various musicians in all genres. He has also played in bands in theater. Hróðmar’s first album, named after him, was released in August 2021 and was released by Reykjavik Record Shop. Hróðmar received recognition at the Icelandic Music Awards 2021 as Newcomer of the Year in the Jazz and Blues category and his band was nominated for Music Performer of the Year, also in the Jazz and Blues category.
