Að rekja brot, exhibition in Kópavogur

In Gerðarsafn in Kópavogur, the exhibition Að rekja brot, an exhibition sponsored by the Nordic Culture Fund, is currently under the curatorship of Daría Sól Andrews. This is a joint exhibition of artists from Iceland, Mexico, Pakistan, the United States, Greenland, Denmark, Norway, Nigeria and Finland; Kathy Clark, Frida Orupabo, Abdullah Qureshi, Sasha Huber, Hugo Llanes, and Inuuteq Storch. In very different ways, they look at how ethnicity is related to identity, that where we come from is the source of our personality. Their works have in common investigating the complex history of colonial and racial violence, criticize and rewrite narratives of oppression and expropriation, and recover concepts such as authority and victim, as Gerðarsafn presents the exhibition. The show is fascinating, very different worlds… merging into one whole.
