Klifbrekkufossar in Mjóifjörður

The Klifbrekkufossar waterfalls at the bottom of Mjóifjörður in the Eastfjords are some of the most beautiful waterfalls in Iceland. There are a total of seven Klifbrekkufossar in Fjarðará, which falls from Mjóafjarðarheiði heath in Fjarðardalur. It is easy to walk to the waterfall series from the main road number 953, which runs from Fagradalur south of Egilsstaðir and out to Dalatangar, the easternmost inhabited settlement in the country. There is a lighthouse and a manned weather station. On the way, we drive through Brekkuþorp, where about ten people live in the most remote settlements in Iceland. For example, the road there is now impassable and will not reopen until early June if the weather is good. The only way to get to Mjóifjörður in the winter is to take a boat from Neskaupstaður to Brekkuþorpið in Mjóifjörður.

There is no question that Klifbrekkufossar in Mjóifjörður is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Iceland. Here we see five of the seven waterfalls.
