Great Mentors

There is an exceptionally powerful and exciting exhibition, Mentor, taking place in Ásmundarsafn. Where Ásmundur Sveinsson and Carl Milles works are displayed together. Carl was born in 1875 in Uppsala, and is one of the greatest sculptors in the history of Sweden. He was Ásmundur’s mentor when he studied sculpture in Sweden from 1920 to 1926. Ásmundur, on the other hand, was born in the west of Iceland in Miðdalur in Dalasýsla, in 1893, a true country boy who did not leave home until he was 22 years old. The exhibition is located in Ásmundarsafn in Laugardalur, in a house / studio that he left to Reykjavíkborg after he died in 1982, like Carl did, but he gave Stockholm his studio and home in Lidingö that he built in 1908. He died in 1955, aged eighty. Millesgården is one of Stockholm’s better museums, just like Ásmundarsafn in Reykjavík. Unique museums. The exhibition runs until the end of January 2024.
