Oslo Tree lit up with Christmas lights

Austurvöllur
Jólaljósin tendruð á Oslóartrénu
December 3rd at 3:30pm

The Christmas lights on the Oslo tree will be lit on the first Sunday of Advent, 3rd of December, during a ceremony at Austurvöllur. The Oslo tree is a symbol of friendship between Oslo and Reykjavik. The Norwegians have brought a tree to Icelanders every year since 1951. Since 2018 it has been cut down in Heiðmörk instead of in Norwegian woods.

Lúðrasveit Reykjavíkur (Reykjavik City Band) will play Advent and Christmas songs from 15:30.

Before the ceremony, the troll Tufti will show up at Austurvöllur and entertain the guests.

A band will perform beautiful Christmas songs.

Santa Claus will also be in town and entertain the children.

The presenter of this event is actress Katla Margrét Þorgeirsdóttir, and the program will also be interpreted in sign language.

Happy holidays!
