Ásgrimur Jónsson (1876 – 1958) was one of the pioneers of Icelandic art and the first Icelander to take up painting professionally. Ásgrimur Jónsson died in 1958, bequeathing all his works, as well as his studio home at Bergstaðastræti 74, Reykjavík, to the Icelandic nation.
