Culture Night is Reykjavík’s birthday celebration, this year the capital’s 237th birthday was being celebrated with over 400 events, big and small. Culture Night, as it is today, is the largest, most crowded and most diverse festival in the city and has been held since 1996. Tens of thousands made their way to the city center, to go to the museums that were open until 11:00 p.m., or to see other events such as concerts in Hljómskálagarður and at Arnarhóll, where many of the best and most well known musicians of the nation came together and played for the whole nation. The concert was broadcast live on RÚV and Bylgjan. There was definitely a great mood in the city center, a mood that Icelandic Times wanted to convey to its readers. See you next year, because Culture Night is the highlight of the summer for so many. The festival ends at eleven o’clock with Reykjavík City’s fireworks show putting an end to a great day.
