A Love Story from the Mountains – Iceland Symphony

Ástarsaga úr fjöllunum (A Love Story from the Mountains) transports us to the magical world of Icelandic trolls with a heart-warming and witty tale. Guðrún Helgadóttir’s beloved story has long been a national treasure. Here it is performed in a beautiful orchestral rendition that paints a lively picture of the mysterious and exciting world of the Icelandic trolls. Narrating the tale is actor Jóhann Sigurðarson, who brings the story to life in his inimitable way.

To create an appropriate setting for the trolls, artist Brian Pilkington’s gripping and atmospheric images will be projected onto a screen during the performance. Framing this wonderful tale are two of Edvard Grieg’s most vivid compositions: the Prelude from the Holberg Suite, an old-style work particularly suitable for the trolls, and then, of course, the March of the Trolls.
