Litla Gallerý – Svart/hvítt litríkt

Litla Gallerý
Margrét Jóna Þórhallsdóttir – Svart/hvítt litríkt
November 30th – December 3rd 2023

The need to do what brings me JOY was the driving force behind this exhibition. On my self healing journey I have realized how important it is to make time for what brings you joy. Our society today is going at a very illegal pace and so many of us are dealing with the speeding tickets. In all our roles in our hustle and bustle of the day, we often forget to stop and really think about whether we are nourishing ourselves by doing what brings us joy and satisfaction. How about slowing down a bit and with doing so prevent getting these speeding tickets. We must remember to stop, take a deep breath and look both inward and around us

For this exhibition I got my inspiration from nature and creation. Creating for me is meditation and it gives me a great feeling of joy. Colors affect me deeply but BLACK is my favorite color. Black and White are not just black and white. I see different nuances in black and white as in other colors. Flowers of all the colors of the rainbow make me very happy whether they are in a vase, in my living room or out in nature. I got my affection for flowers, among other things from my grandmother Jóa who had a great appreciation of beauty and had many beautiful flowers, both in the living room and the garden. For this exhibition I wanted to work with flowers because they have exceptionally beautiful organic shapes and lines. In these paintings

I take them from their natural environment, put them on the canvas and work them according to my own style. I play with lines, colors and organic shapes. In order for the image composition to be comfortable and exciting for the eye, I try to achieve a certain balance in arrangement and color combination. The paintings are made with mixed media, acrylic and pen.
