Art in the valley

Laugardalur is significant in may ways. The people of Reykjavík used to make their way east of Laugavegur to Þvottalaugarnar to wash their clothes back in the day but today Laugardalur has all of the country’s biggest sports facilities among other things. Laugardalur is also one of the largest outdoor recreational areas in the center of the capital. In the middle of the valley is the Botanical Garden, which was founded in 1961. The garden now has over 5,000 plants, to the delight of the capital’s residents and tourists. In the Botanical Garden is the restaurant Flóra, which is open from spring to autumn. For the spring opening, there is now an art exhibition, Ásætur / Epiphytes, where 11 artists show their works to visitors. A joint project of students at the University of Iceland and the University of the Arts. A great show.
