Steinatún - Bakkafjörður eyðibýli

Moderate Beauty

Bakkafjörður lies between Þistilfjörður and Vopnafjörður in the northeast corner of Iceland. A sparsely populated area where time moves more slowly, everything is so moderate, both the landscape and human life. Then there is the weather and the light, where there is no calm. Paradise for photographers. In Iceland there is no place as far away from Reykjavík, it takes a good ten hours to get from the capital to the peace and beauty. Bakkafjörður is today part of Langanesbyggð. There are big plans to build the country’s largest port in Finnafjörður in Bakkafjörður. Unloading port for large container ships coming from Asia on the northern route, north of Russia, when that shipping route opens. It is the engineering firm Efla that is working with the locals and Bremenports in Germany on proposals for this giant port. But the area is naturally exceptionally good for the large shipping port. Also, the location is great for a transshipment port, a short distance west to America or south to Europe. Here are some different moods from Bakkafjörður.
