Despite weather warnings from the Icelandic Meteorological Office in recent days, many tourists did not hesitate to visit Reynisfjara in Mýrdalur.

Raging sea by the South Coast

There is no harbour all the way from Þorlákshöfn in the west to Höfn in Hornafjörður in the east, 429 km / 266 mi long way. Between the fishing villages is Reynisfjara black sand beach in Mýrdalur, just west of Vík. The beach is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Iceland. There you can see the strong ocean waves hitting the land with incredible power. It is, however, not without its dangers to visit the beach. Quite a few people have died after falling into the waves and been swept out to sea. It is hazardous to play in the waves in bad weather like it has been lately, as with high winds with rain.
