Eldheimar Volcano Museum

Eldheimar Volcano Museum is all about the huge 1973 volcano eruption, one of the biggest in modern times in Iceland. It’s also the eruption that created the new island Surtsey.

The eruption lasted for 5 months and all the islanders had to leave the island in the middle of the night. Some of them never saw their homes again as it disappeared under the molten lava.

The museum is a remembrance of those awful events where visitors get to see photos, videos and a house that disappeared during the eruption.
