JÓHANNES SVEINSSON KJARVAL 1885-1972
Jóhannes Sveinsson Kjarval was born in Efri-Ey, Meðalland on the 15th of October 1885, but his parents were farmers Karítas Sverrisen and Sveinn Ingimundarson. Kjarval grew up in Geitavík, Borgarfjörður eystri from the age of four, where he was greatly inspired by the magnificient landscape, as exhibited in many of is paintings. When a hundred years had passed since his birth, fall 1985, the inhabitants of Borgarfjörður build a monument in his honor, located by the highway close to Geitavík. Here you can see some of his work, influenced by his native Borgarfjörður eystri.
