“A picture says more than a thousand words.
A picture says more than a thousand years.
A picture says more than a thousand Icelandic years.
An Icelandic picture says more than a thousand
Icelandic years.”

“The drive behind my exhibitions are my feelings towards each subject matter and the energy connected to them. Some of my works look into how reality is presented in visual art, or how society reacts to visual art.

For the past few years text and experiments with various material have been the base of my works. Text as texture, as expression of thoughts, as an inspiration for shaping society. In recent works I’ve been dealing with essence, time and image. Words and ideas are deconstructed and given a new meaning in harmony with the material and context of the exhibition.”

Jóna Hlíf Halldórsdóttir (born 1978) graduated with an MA degree from GSA in Scotland 2007. She was the director of SÍM and is now the director of Gerðarsafn Art Museum.
