ANOTHER CHURCH

East is the main direction of Christianity, almost all of the country’s 330 churches face east-west, and the entrance is on the west side. In other words, there are about 330 churches in Iceland, with other places of worship there are almost 380, so there are over a thousand inhabitants per place of worship in the country. Icelanders adopted Christianity in the year 1000, and have been mostly Lutheran since the reformation in 1550. The churches don’t just make a strong impression on the capital, as Hallgrímskirkja, the largest church in the country at the top of Skólavörðuholti, is one of Reykjavík’s most famous landmarks, there are also the Cathedral and the Fríkirkjan. the city center. When driving around the country, it is more often than not the country’s churches that capture the eye, well placed on the manors of each village.
