Extremely windy weather

It was windy in the capital today. When the accompanying pictures were taken today between 3 and 4, the average wind in the capital was 56 km / 35 mi, and a wind gust of up to 95 km / 59 mi, according to the Icelandic Meteorological Office. Stætó has cancelled many trips in the countryside today, including all trips to Akureyri and to Keflavík Airport. The strongest wind in the country today was by Hafnafjall – just south of Borgarnes, in Blönduhlíð – south of Varmahlíð in Skagafjörður and of course at the weather station at Hvammur under Eyjafjöll, between Hvolsvöllur and Vík in Mýrdal. Hvammur is the windiest place in the country on an annual basis.

Jan from the Netherlands did not let the storm stop him at Grótta. Better to brave the weather than be home in a lockdown. That’s where the 3-week curfew for Covid begins tomorrow.
