Kolugljúfur

In Víðidalsá, an excellent salmon fishing river just east of Hvammstangi in Vestur Húnavatnssýsla, you can find Kolugljúfur. Fifteen hundred meter long canyons that were dug by the troll Kola who built a home there. There are good hiking trails along the canyon on both sides and there were quite a few tourists exploring the canyon when Icelandic Times passed by. Only a 5 km detour from Ring Road 1 to see this unique natural gem. Nearby there are more landmarks such as Hvítserkur, Borgarvirki, Heggstaðanes and Arnarvatnheiði with all its countless lakes.

Looking down Kolugljúfur, they are about 1500m long
