The circumference of Iceland is 1,522 km / 946 mi if you sail around Iceland and leave out all nooks and crannies. On the other hand, if you walk along the beach and stay on the shore, the coastline of Iceland is no less than 8,464 km / 5,259 mi. Which is a similar distance as from Reykjavík to the Galapagos Islands or from Reykjavík to Seoul, the capital of South Korea, in a straight line. The size of Iceland is 103 thousand km², but Icelandic waters, the economic jurisdiction that belongs to Iceland, reaches 200 nautical miles out from the peninsula is 7.5 times larger or 758 thousand km².

At Bjarnarvík just west of Þorlákshafn. Despite dead calm weather this morning, there was a significant undercurrent at the south coast, as it is almost every day of the year.
