A Summer Evening in the City Centre
Skólavörðustígur is one of the two main shopping streets in the centre of Reykjavík, the other street is Laugavegur. Skólavörðustígur lies from the intersection of Laugavegur and Bankastræti to the southeast up Skólavörðuholt Hill and ends at Hallgrímskirkja Church which stands at the top of the hill. There are many companies on the street, shops and one prison. It is actually being renovated, but it was built in 1872 and was in use until 2016. The idea is to turn the building into a dining hall. When the Icelandic Times visited Skólavörðustígur late last night, it came as a surprise how many people were out and about, especially tourists window shopping.
