Gallery Fold proudly presents the solo exhibition of Margrét Eddudóttir which openson the 6th of August at 1 o’clock.
From darkness is a continuation of Margrétar’s previous shows; Emotional Skwigglery, A Birds Manifestation and most recently Úthverfu which was held at Gallery Fold 2020. In this show she works with both pastels on paper and textile works made with mixed techniques, polymer clay and threads. Margrét approaches her subject by portraying emotions in a simple and sincere way. “I avoid too much logic when making my works, especially the pastel works. I approach them as a kind of meditation. The physicality as the medium invokes, the soft, exposed texture of the pastels perfectly reflects the soft interior of my mind and body.”
Although the subject is not only intended to speak to women, they have a strong feminist influence and purpose. The outcome of this emotional outburst addresses a phenomenon that most of us have in common. However, there are ongoing connections across all media. Physical connection to our inner, spiritual state.
Margrét Eddudóttir was born and raised mostly in Reykjavík but partly in the United States. In 2007, she completed the preparatory course at Reykjavík Art School and began her BA studies at LHÍ’s Department of Art, which she completed in 2010. She held her first solo exhibition in Deiglan in Akureyri in 2011. Out of Darkness is Margrétar’s second solo exhibition at Gallerí Fold.
The exhibition opens on Saturday, August 6 at 1 pm.
