Gerðarsafn – Gerður

Gerðarsafn – Gerður
11.05.2023 –31.12.2024

For the first time Gerðarsafn, Kópavogur Art Museum, opens a permanent exhibition dedicated to Gerður Helgadóttir (1928-1975). The exhibition places an emphasis on her sculptural works and sheds light on the artist‘s vigorous creativity and her experimental avant-garde approach to creating complex works of incredible range.

The basis of the exhibition is an ongoing research project at the museum on the career of Gerður Helgadóttir and the numerous works by her held in the museum’s collection. A humidity-controlled storage space has been set up inside the exhibition to extend the museum’s art storage and thus invite exhibition visitors to view several of Helgadóttir’s works and at the same time ensure the best storage conditions for the pieces.
