Flæðarmál in Hafnarborg

Jónína Guðnadóttir, born in 1943, has been a pivotal figure in Iceland’s art scene for over five decades, notably in the fields of clay and visual arts. Her artistic palette extends to concrete, glass, plastic, and paper, but her profound work with clay truly defines her craft. Her latest exhibition at Hafnarborg, curated by Aðalheiður Valgeirsdóttir, showcases her remarkable journey. This exhibition is more than a mere display; it’s a testament to Jónína’s lifelong commitment to transcending the realms of applied art, seamlessly blending the world of art with the rhythms of daily life. Spanning an illustrious career, the exhibition traces her evolution from her first showing at Unuhús in Reykjavík 56 years ago to her present exhibition in Hafnarfjörður. The exhibition’s title, “Flæðarmál” (Water’s Edge), is a nostalgic nod to her childhood memories of playing by the shores of Akranes. This title poetically captures the ever-changing tides of Faxaflói Bay.
