The Westfjords Heritage Museum

The Westfjords Heritage Museum

The museum is located in an 18th century building at the tip of the small spit on which the town of Ísafjörður stands, called Neðstikaupstaður. The museum gives a unique insight into the rich history and culture of the area. Part of the exhibitions are outside and can be visited when the Museum is closed.

The area Neðstikaupstaður also has a restaurant, public toilets and the Tourist information office

In Þingeyri the Museum runs the Blacksmith workshop.

It was founded in 1913 and is among the first of its kind in Iceland. It is still operating in its original shape, so some days it is a living museum. Amazing atmosphere for all ages.

Open June 1 – Aug. 31 from 10-14, Wednesday to Sunday.
